We were informed today that we were given permission to visit Tibet, so our trip leader went to the local office to pick up the paperwork. It seems each individual is previewed to determine if they could cause trouble and or if the situation in Tibet is too sensitive for visitors.
We will leave the hotel around 5:00 AM for a 6:40 flight. Since our destination is at about 12,000 feet above sea level, many of us have been taking medication to minimize the effects of high altitude mountain sickness. Even so it is recommended we rest upon arrival, no alcohol the first day, push water intake, and eat chocolate to feel better. I like that last recommendation.
This afternoon we visited an area of Chengdu for lunch that has been rehabbed as an entertainment district , bars, restaurants, ice cream parlors, shops, etc. The overall population of the city is young and seem fun loving.
